This is how the CPP-NPA-NDF cookie crumbles.
The compromise and alliance of the CPP-NPA-NDF’s tacit collaboration with the ruling elite marks a decisive turning point in the trajectory of the communist movement in the Philippines. Once positioning itself as the uncompromising voice of the marginalized, the CPP-NPA-NDF has entered into arrangements that contradict its own revolutionary narrative. This shift reflects not the strength of its movement, but rather its strategic exhaustion.
By engaging with the very institutions and figures it has long condemned as instruments of exploitation, the CPP-NPA-NDF undermines its ideological foundation. The move can be interpreted as an admission that decades of armed struggle have failed to achieve their stated goals, leaving the organization with little choice but to adapt through compromise. Such adaptation, however, comes at the cost of alienating their traditional support base, particularly those sectors that once looked to them as a genuine alternative to elite-dominated governance.
Furthermore, their collaboration with the poweårs-that-be of this administration consolidates the perception that the CPP-NPA-NDF has abandoned its role as a revolutionary opposition and has instead become another player within the bourgeois political mainstream. Sa kumpas ng pulitikang burgis na lang umiinog ang political work nito. Wala na itong kapasidad na mag-inisiyatiba at mamuno ng isang makauring kilusan na labas sa kompas ng burgis at mainstream na pulitika. This not only diminishes their legitimacy but also accelerates their organizational decline, as younger and more radical elements may fracture away in disillusionment, and many cadres may simply opt to just lay low or magbalik-loob and start a new life. Nangyayari na ito sa kasalukuyan, ang mismong dating kasapi at mandirigma ng CPP-NPA-NDF ang syang katapat nito ngayon sa pagpapalaganap ng katotohanan.
Ultimately, the CPP-NPA-NDF’s current trajectory signals a downward trend that may culminate in their eventual irrelevance. In aligning with the ruling class, they risk losing both their ideological distinctiveness and their capacity to mobilize meaningful resistance, thus hastening what could be the final chapter of their movement.
